The kids and I left for Illinois to visit my parents the last weekend in June. The kids did so well on the trip there. We only had to stop once and that was to eat and use the bathroom. It is amazing how long it takes to take C to the bathroom, feed Canon and myself, feed Harper a bottle and baby food, and change Harper's bottle when you are by yourself. Whew. I think that part and trying to be efficient wore me out more than the driving.
The first day we were in Illinois we had a wonderful family dinner. My dad grilled and my mom cooked. My aunt (my mom's oldest sister) and my uncle (my mom's only brother) were in town, so it was really nice to visit with them. My grandparents were also at my parent's for dinner. It is always good to be with them, as they seem to go downhill more and more each time I see them. Canon loves his great grandmother and talks and talks to her. :)
Friday morning my best friend, Brook came to see the kids and me for a few hours (my parents were working). I miss her like crazy. After visiting with her, we headed out to lunch with one of my high school friends. It was so good to visit with her and catch up. Canon then went to my sister's house to play with my niece while Harper went down for a nap. That afternoon and evening we all played outside and explored.
Absolutely love this view. I miss seeing it daily.
Swinging with Mam-mo. I spent many many hours on this swing growing up. Harper also liked swinging with me.
Canon took many 4-wheeler trips with Pops.
They picked me flowers every trip.
So sweet to see Canon walk or drive up with flowers in his hand for his mommy.
Exploring the barn with mommy.
Saturday, we headed to the pool before the rain came and then all took much needed naps. Canon slept with me every evening and for his this nap. He kicked me in the ribs all night long, but I loved it.
Sunday, we went to church. After church my entire family (parents and sister's family) went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast/lunch. After eating I packed up the kids and we headed home. Ahhh, the ride home was not fun. It normally takes four hours to get home and it took seven. The kids were TROOPERS and I was so thankful. We got stuck in construction three different times and I was sick to my stomach and had to stop twice. At one point Canon said, "How are we ever going to get home to see daddy if we keep stopping?" Haha! Good question Canon. I was thankful we made it home safely and we were all in good spirits when pulling into the house, but I never want to do that again. It could have been much worse.

It looks like a fun trip! You were brave to take them by yourself. I always get nervous about all the potential stops, meltdowns, etc in the car when I think about going to visit my family.
It is definitely not the easiest. I have done this trip twice by myself with both of them, but every time it has worked out fine (even when it took me 7 hours to get home). For me, I have to be so organized when in the car. Snacks in one bag for C. Toys in a separate bag. Everything out (diapers, bottles, wipes, baby food, etc) all laid out so I can find it easily. Organization and being prepared is key!! Hope you are doing well!
